It’s the simple things.
One of my biggest regrets is not being more appreciative of the little things.
As teenagers we are so concerned with our social lives, with our role in the friend group- or having to search for a friend group at all. We end up not being able to go to that big social event and instantly that night becomes a night of some rowdy fomo and feeling sorry for ourselves.
We need to take a step back and realize that no matter what happens, the only thing for certain is you will always have yourself there to count on. Nothing else is certain in our lifetime. It is absolutely essential that we feel content and comfort with nothing more than our own company.
We need to push our egos out of the way and ask ourselves how we really want to be spending our limited time.
Pay attention to the little things, the simple things. Chirping. Birds becoming crickets at nightfall. The subtle glow through your window. Bug bites and campfire smell encompassing your body. Tight hugs and thrift trips. Cold water and full moons.
If we fill our free time with an appreciation for these things then that life will be a life well spent.
